LMC/QUALMEC converted an oil burning Foster Wheeler boiler to a Kvaerner Power B.F.B. (Bubbling Fluidized Bed) boiler, all within a six-week shutdown period. This fast-track conversion project included the installation of the fuel-feed system, upgrade of the tubular air heater, addition of a radiant super-heater and addition of a new combustion air system.
All of these modifications and upgrades were necessary to provide reliable steam to a new turbine and the mill steam supply. This successful project became the basis of a business relationship where Qualmec performed the maintenance to the unit on a regular basis.
